Information about Nessebar

The total area of Nessebar Municipality is 421 883 decares or 5.4% of the territory of Bourgas Region. 167 229 decares of them are arable lands, 20 418 decares are forests. The beaches of the Municipality are among the largest on the Bulgarian Black Sea coast, with an area of 1517 decares and a total capacity of 139 450 beach places. These natural resources represent the most important factor which determines and shapes the main branch structure of the municipal economy – economic tourism, recreation, and sports.
118 hotels, 86 BB, 294 private lodgings, 550 public restaurants function on the territory of the municipality. A significant part of those facilities is concentrated in the resort compounds of Sunny Beach and Elenite in Nessebar and the villages St. Vlas and Ravda.
Nesebar is one of the oldest towns in Europe. It was built by a person from Megara together with a great number of colonists from the town. It was founded under the name of Misimbria. Nesebar has been declared to be an architectural and archaeological natural reserve in 1956 and its cultural monuments have been inscribed in 1983 in the list of UNESCO’s World Heritage Sites.
