Varna City
Varna is the third biggest city with a population of 353 000 people and a territory of 205 sq. km. Its location in the northern Black Sea coast as well the rich natural resources make the city one of the most famous resort centres in Europe and the biggest one in the Black Sea region. European Transport Corridor 8 crosses Varna.

The geographic location and the existing infrastructure have defined the favourable development of the city for centuries.  The well-organized water and cargo transport have defined the image of the city as an intersection between the East and the West. It’s worth mentioning that Varna has the same geographic latitude as the French Riviera.

In the vicinity of the city there are situated the summer resort compounds of St. St. Constantine and Elena, Sluchev Den /Sunny Day/, Chaika /Sea-gull/, Riviere, Zlatni Pyasutsi /Golden Sands/, Albena, and Rusalka /Mermaid/.

The city has a seaside, mild and pleasant climate, similar to the Mediterranean one. Varna is very suitable for balneo- and climate therapy as the climate can serve as a natural inhaler.

The most continuous sunshine in Varna occurs in July and August, respectively 331 hours and 313 hours. The air temperature is between 18 and 31 °C usually from May to October, and it is on average 22,8 degrees from July to August. The town of Odessos was founded in the bay of Varna in the 6th century BC by settlers.  During the next 26 centuries, the fortress was ruled by different peoples, such as Persians, Romans, Byzantines and Bulgarians.   European science cannot establish the origin of the name Varna but it has become clear that it is very ancient one.  Varna was inhabited over 4200 years BC by representatives of a very developed culture. This is proved by the great number of the oldest in the world refined gold that was discovered in Varna Necropolis.

The transport network of the city contains land, air and water transport. Varna Airport services national and international charter and regular flights. The harbour station of Varna is an international station for passengers, yachts, military ships and other non-commercial sea-craft.
