Residential Property Prices in Bulgaria Increase with 6.8%


Data for the apartment prices in Bulgaria during the first trimester of 2008 has been published by the National Statistics Institute (NSI). According to this data the average apartment price in Bulgaria reached 1300 per leva per square meter for the January - March 2008 period, which makes the average market price per a square meter of residential property 6.8% higher compared to last year.

The price increase, according to experts is due to a high demand on the part of wealthy people on one side, and the insufficient supply on the other.

The Lovetch region has registered the highest increase of 19% where the average price now reaches 828 leva per square meter.

The apartments in Sofia, where salaries are the highest in the country, remain the most expensive in Bulgaria. In Sofia the increase is 16% - increase up to 677.83 leva per square meter with an average price of 2163 leva per square meter.

The second most expensive residential real estate market is Varna where the average price has increased by 8.2% up to 2099 leva per square meter. Ruse ranks third with 1732 leva per square meter and is now ahead of Bourgas with its average price of 1732 leva per square meter.

A price decrease is observed in three residential property markets, lead by Vidin with -7.8%, followed by the Smolyan area with -1.5% and Silistra with -1%.
