Bulgarian Cabinet Accelerates Highway Construction

The Bulgarian cabinet is working on accelerating the construction of key segments of the Trakiya, Maritza, and Hemus Highways, and of the southern arch of the Sofia beltway. These segments include 25 km of the Stara Zagora-Karnobat portion of the Trakiya Highway, 4 km of the Svilengrad-Kapitan Andreevo part of the Maritza Highway, and the construction of the Koritina intersection on the Hemus Highway.

For this reason BGN 120 M for the highways construction were allocated on July 17, 2008. The funds will come from anticipated savings in the state expenditures and the surplus in the state budget.

In addition, a portion of the funds will be used for completion of archeological excavations along the planned routes of the Trakiya and Maritza Highways, and the Kurdzhali-Dzebel-Podkova road as well as for compensating owners, whose lands have been appropriated for the new roads.
