Varna to Compete for European Black Sea Capital

According to the Bulgarian daily newspaper “Standard”, he EU is going to pick the European Black Sea capital and Varna is one of the top two finalists

Varna’s strongest competitor is the sea resort Constantsa in Romania.

John Murray, Director of growthclusters.com - an organization working at national, regional, local and international levels in the area of cluster development points out that comparing Varna to Constantsa would be the same as comparing the Frankfurt airport to Heathrow since Varna is a much bigger city than the Romanian resort.

The British expert believes that Constantsa’s advantage of its recently reconstructed port could be easily overcome by Varna by the construction of a larger and modern logistic center in the Bulgarian city. Such center would significantly improve Varna’s chances to become the EU Black Sea Capital.

Murray explains that Brussels’ goal was not to move Eastern Europe to Paris or London but to aligning living standards.
