Fraport Twin Star Airport Management ADT, the concessionaire of the airports of Varna and Bourgas, the two major Bulgarian Black Sea cities and ports has plans to build new passenger terminals at both airports.
The announcement was made by the company’s Chief Technical Director.
In addition, during the first six months of the current year, Fraport Twin Star Airport Management AD has invested over 12,5 million leva in the improvement of the airports of Varna and Bourgas.
Of them 8,5 million leva were invested in the replacement the old electrical systems while 1 million leva were used for the renovation of the older terminal of the airport in Varna and an additional 800,000 leva went for the remodelling of parking lot in front of the newer terminal.
The new project investments for both passenger terminals are estimated at 65 million euro. The terminal at the Bourgas airport would cost about 36 million euro.
The new terminal in Bourgas will have 36 check-in counters, while the one in Varna will have 24. The Bourgas will be a little larger due to the heaviest traffic of tourists going to the Southern Black Sea Coast.
The construction will begin in the middle of 2009 and the new terminals are scheduled to open by the start of the 2011 summer tourist season.
A total of 110 obsolete buildings at both airports are going to be demolished. The concessionaire is also going to purchase three new fire trucks to serve the airports.
The concept design of the new buildings has already been prepared. The trader to select the architectural and design team would be announced by the end of September.
